Stations of the Crass: Apocalyptic Visions of the Omega Tribe
Works by: Jason Blue Lake Hawk Martinez

Artist Statement:
I am visiting ideas of neo-mythology, prophesy and internal revelation in response to the secular and religious ideas of apocalypse. Each painting corresponds with the traditional Roman Catholic Stations of the Cross combined with Pueblo and Judeo-Christian end time scenarios. These “stations” are designed as interpretation to the significant power of faith. History shows that belief has a strong psychological effect on humanity positive or negative. I have composed a story of duality through balance of dark and light. Envisioning a world of converging ideas bringing reclamation of something new and a moribundity to the past. I am attempting to resolve personal issues of pain, frustration, and confusion in relation to our world/tribe at constant war with itself over the lust for power and need to be right. Does an unwavering and rigid belief system birth negative actions and reactions? Will this be the end of days, or are we on the verge of a contemporary vision of inclusivity and understanding? It is in humanity’s right to freedom that we ask these questions. It is in our favor to find an answer.

Jason is working on a cool new project with landfillart.org

Update from Ken: October 22, 2008
Today was a very fulfilling day. Since the project began, I believed it couldn't be and wouldn't be complete without the involvement of Native American Indian artists. And really, how could it be!!
Well today, and not by accident, the landfillart project has been enhanced by the inclusion of Jason Blue Lake Hawk Martinez, a painter from the Tiwa Taos Pueblo Nation and Carresa Gullo, a painter from the Eastern Cherokee Nation. landfill.org
